On 21 April 2026, from 14:30 to 17:00, Neth-ER, the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and the Dutch Permanent Representation to the EU are organising an event on the future of the Erasmus+ programme. The event is developed together with the MBO Raad, Nuffic, UNL and VH. Almost 40 years ago, the Erasmus programme was launched. It is now time to look ahead and explore what lies in store for its successor in the next Multiannual Financial Framework.

An ambitious programme for an ambitious Erasmus+

In 2027, the Erasmus+ programme celebrates its 40th anniversary. The world has changed considerably since its start and currently we live in a very dynamic time. That raises the question: where does the programme stand today, and what priorities should be set for its successor in the next MFF? We will discuss the European Paliament’s perspective with MEP’s Brigitte van den Berg and Marit Maij. Education, Sport and Youth Counsellor Kika Kattami  from the Permanent Representation of Cyprus to the EU will enlighten us about the state of play and envisaged results under the current Cyprus EU-Council presidency regarding the negotiations on the Erasmus+ regulation. Additionally, we will represent the Dutch position on this policy matter with Caspar van den Berg (UNL), Joep Houterman (VH), Jeanette van Oostijen (MBO Raad), Noor Groenendijk (NA Erasmus+/Nuffic) and Olmer Tutein Nolthenius (ISO).

This year, both the Council of Ministers as well the European Parliament will decide as co-legislaters about their positions. Neth-ER, uniting the Dutch knowledge sector, drafted a response, offering concrete recommendations in five key areas.
