UNLOCK System Transitions
Europe is at the cusp of various transitions: high quality health care, clean and renewable energy, critical raw materials, cyber security, … These increasingly complex problems involve system failure. Due to complexity, a common goal and action perspective is often missing for the various actors involved. Creating breakthroughs in these complex societal issues requires a deep understanding of the bigger picture – the system – and its interdependent and interacting parts.
To solve these complex problems, TNO developed the UNLOCK System Transitions methodology. Through this methodology, the perspectives of experts from various backgrounds are collaboratively guided through different lenses to achieve a collective systems perspective that is greater than the sum of its parts. Not only does this novel systemic understanding result in actionable solutions for ways out of the wicked problem – the action perspective also resides in the individuals whose transdisciplinary potential is unlocked.
