Neth-ER, TNO and KNAW cordially invite you to join the forthcoming on-site event ‘Knowledge Security in Research: threats, intervention modes and the way forward’ on Tuesday the 28th of March from 15:00-17:30.
Carrying out state-of-the art research is not possible without international cooperation. This provides both opportunities and risks for knowledge institutions, due to their inherently open character. Knowledge security in research revolves around the balancing act between these opportunities and risks.
This event aims to explore how knowledge institutions, policymakers and other stakeholders address the security aspects of international research collaboration by exchanging information and best practices.
Topics that will be addressed include:
• The importance of knowledge security in research for knowledge institutions
• Common threats and possible intervention modes
• Policy responses at EU and national level
• Introductory statement by moderator Sabine van Gastel, Export Control Officer, TNO
• European policy context – Mirko van Muijen & Slaven Misljencevic, Policy Officers RTD.F.2 and
RTD.A.3, Directorate-General Research & Innovation, European Commission
• Threats and risks of international research collaboration – Dutch Ministry of
the Interior and Kingdom Relations
• Policy considerations for knowledge security in research – Eppo Bruins, chairman Dutch
Advisory council for science, technology and innovation (AWTI)
• Panel discussion: The point of view of knowledge institutions
- Linda Krom, Corporate Security Officer, TNO
- Sebastiaan den Bak, Interim Director and Head of International Policy, NWO
- Peter Gill, Senior Policy Advisor, TU Delft
• Conclusions by Sabine van Gastel & Jurgen Rienks, director Neth-ER
